ABOUT OUR SCHEDULING PROCESS

 

Regardless of whether you are a novice or an experienced sewer, Sewendipity Lounge has classes and events just for you. To register for a class, simply call the store at 513-4-I-DO-SEW (513-443-6739). First call, first served! If you're booking a class for the first time and are unsure of your skill level, start by taking our online Skills Assessment

CLASS SCHEDULE​: JANUARY - MARCH 2020

TECHNIQUES


Pattern Making Club (PMC) is geared toward the novice or the person who has some experience creating patterns but wants to perfect the art of pattern making. The club accommodates those who are unable to commit to weeks of continuous classes. PMC will be held on Wednesdays, January 29, February 26 and March 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. To register a week or more before class, call (513) 443-6739. Cost is $25 per club session. Lindsey Whittle is the PMC facilitator.


Introduction to Operating a Serger/Sewing Machine. Bring your serger or view demonstrations on how to operate the machines in store. For those who need assistance using a sewing machine, the instructor will guide the student into gaining knowledge and confidence when using the machine. One, 2hr. session- $40


BEGINNER PROJECTS


Beginner Sewing Part 1 - Create an Infinity Scarf! Learn about the anatomy of fabric; needle types; toolkit essentials; cutting fabric with rotary cutters vs. shears; parts of a serger and sewing machine. Everything is included in the class just bring a smile and a great attitude! One, 3hr. session- $70


Beginner Sewing Part 2 - Circle/Pencil Skirt, Pajama or Wide leg Pants! Learn about bias, warp and weft while cutting your fabric and constructing the garment. Learn to put in elastic for waistband, zipper, waist facings, etc. Must purchase one of the following patterns: Skirt or pants - New Look 6544, Pajama Pants - Simplicity 2250, Simplicity - S8885 wide leg pants and long skirt. Use body measurements to select proper size. Circle skirt pattern is an online pattern provided by SL. Two, 3hr. sessions- $80


Basic Knit Top! Learn how to sew with knit fabrics. Raglan sleeve variations. RECOMMEND: For women: Simplicity 8548. For men: Simplicity 8613. Similar patterns must be approved by instructor. Two, 3hr. sessions- $80


INTERMEDIATE PROJECTS
 

African Print Fashions. To be stylish for Black History Month and beyond, try your hand at creating a fashionable outfit made from African Prints that can be combined with other fashion prints and solids.  Try your hand at tunics, pants, dashikis, dresses, skirts, and more. Patterns suggested (but not limited to) Butterick B6534, B6638 and B5725, and See & Sew B6617. Four 2hr. sessions - $125
 

How to Make Reversible Clothes. Learn to make two garments out of one!  Consult with sewing instructor to select a pattern to sew for double duty. Four 2hr. sessions - $125 


6 Week Garment Construction! Learn about pattern layout; fabric cutting; garment construction; and finishing techniques. Six, 2.5 hr. sessions- $180


Bomber Jacket! Sew your own stylized bomber jacket using a variety of fabric and trims. Take body measurements, sew a muslin, make adjustments, cut from fashion fabric. RECOMMEND: Simplicity Pattern 8418, McCall’s 7637(Unisex), or McCall’s 7100. Four, 2hr. sessions- $100
 

ADVANCED PROJECTS


Men’s Classic Tailored Shirt with relaxed fit, back yoke, sleeve with plackets, cuffs, back darts, button front, and more.  Simplicity 1544 and 8427. Choose correct size based on chest measurement. Three, 3hr. sessions - $100


Tailored Women’s Coat. This is a very versatile pattern that can be made in four different versions from floor length to above the knee. There is a front zipper closure, side seam pockets and neckline, sleeve and length variations. Also, there is a hood and contrast band with tie belt and contrasting lower sleeve. McCall’s Pattern M7848 is to be used to create your fashionable winter or spring look for 2020. Six, 2hr. sessions - $150.

 

SEWING ESSENTIALS
 

Unless otherwise specified, students are required to bring their sewing kit when taking classes. If not, sewing kits can be purchased for $70. Sewing kits must include:

  • 4/5-inch fabric shears

  • Tape Measure

  • Sewing/Hem Gauge

  • Various sewing needles

  • Dressmaker Pins

  • Pin Cushion

  • Black & White Polyester Thread

  • Seam Ripper

  • Pencil (optional)

  • Marking Tools (Chalk, Wax, Ink)

  • 18-inch ruler

  • Container to put items in

POLICIES & NOTES

Registration: Payment in full is required at the time of registration, for all classes. Please register early, in store or by phone. When necessary, supply lists for the specific class will be provided by email prior to the scheduled class.


Incomplete Class Work: Sewendipity Lounge is not obligated to schedule make-up classes if student fails to return to class within a two-week period. It is the students’ responsibility to attend class and complete garments during the allotted time.


Refund Policy: Class deposits are non-refundable. All sales are final. If Sewendipity Lounge cancels a class, the affected student(s) will be given the choice of a refund, store credit, or another class.


We Welcome Your Ideas! If there is a specific project you’d like to do, feel free to suggest a class.


Book A Workspace! Members may book a workspace free of charge. However, non-members may use the lounge unassisted for $15/hr. or with an instructor for $20hr.


Sewing Parties! Must be scheduled. Please call the lounge for details.


Body Measurements! By appointment, $15 for one session.


SKILL LEVELS & ASSESSMENT

Classes are arranged by the following skill levels:

  • Beginner. Little to no experience required.

  • Intermediate I. Must be able to use a machine and follow printed directions.

  • Intermediate II. Must know basic garment and construction techniques and be very comfortable using a sewing machine. 

  • Advanced. Must be extremely proficient in a variety of sewing skills and techniques.

Skills Assessment: If you don’t know your skill level, please take our online assessment.

MEMBERSHIPS


The purpose of membership is for our members to have access to limited support from SL when they are creating or completing a sewing project. You must have some sewing knowledge in order to register for a membership. Membership is not a substitute for sewing classes, which provide more in-depth instruction. We offer two membership levels:

MONTHLY- $50. Payment one-time fee for the month. Book a workspace with a maximum of 16 hours.

ANNUAL- $40 Per Month. Book a workspace up to 48 hours per month (576 hours per year). Payments automatically withdrawn from your credit card each month.
