Sophie’s Awakening was initiated by a relationship that began at SL in 2017.
Two sisters were introduced to sewing when given an opportunity to attend sewing classes at SL in the summer of 2017. I hadn’t seen the girls in person all that time, but on Facebook I would follow the family and enjoyed all the activities they were involved in. This past Sunday I was looking at patterns in JoAnn’s and heard this young teen talking so mature about creating some outfits. I looked up and saw she and her mother looking at patterns and discussing what next steps to planning an outfit. Because they were “masked with masks,” I couldn’t quite make out who they were. But it was something about them that felt familiar!
I couldn’t keep silent and said, “Excuse me, but did you ever visit Sewendipity Lounge?” Their eyes enlarged and exclaimed with a muffled, “Yes, you are Karen who taught sewing at SL.”
They both began to share how helpful sewing had been for Sophie and that she was making all kinds of outfits because of her experience and early relation initiated at SL. The two were so proud to show me all the outfits that Sophie had created and some made without a commercial pattern. I said you must share these with the public which she had been hesitant to do! I told her that she has talent and can’t hide it under a rock. So below are photos of Sophie and her little sister at SL, Video comments of Sofie and a collection of garments she made. I am so proud of her. I am glad a relationship was formed at a critical point in her life! Who knows what career path Sophie may take? Go Girl!
